Jerusalem: Palestine's Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, announced that the Permanent Mission of Palestine has requested an urgent session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent observers. This request was made immediately, based on directives from the Palestinian presidency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the request aims to discuss mechanisms for action at the Arab and international levels to confront Israeli actions, prevent their continuation, and hold perpetrators accountable before international justice mechanisms. Al-Aklouk stated that this move comes amid the ongoing aggression committed by Israel against the Palestinian people for more than 671 consecutive days.
Al-Aklouk further explained that the urgency of the request is heightened by the Israeli decision to reoccupy and fully control the Gaza Strip, which is anticipated to result in forced displacement of Palestinians both inside and outside Gaza and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis. The situation is compounded by Israel's continued destruction of Palestinian refugee camps, expansion efforts, demolition of homes, increased raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, and other activities perceived as aggressive.
He stressed the importance of the meeting issuing an Arab resolution that calls for effective action at both the Arab and international levels. The aim is to confront these Israeli actions and ensure that those responsible are prosecuted before international courts.
