The olive pressing season in Jordan commenced on Wednesday, marked by optimism for a productive year ahead. Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hunaifat launched the season at the Jabal Hadithah press in the Seer District of Amman, emphasizing the sector's resilience in overcoming challenges posed by climate change. Hunaifat projected that this year's olive production could reach approximately 175,000 tons, resulting in around 30,000 tons of olive oil. He expressed confidence that the season will be better than last year, highlighting that olives constitute three-quarters of the fruit trees in Jordan. In his remarks, Muhammad Najdawi, head of the General Syndicate of Contemporary Owners of Olive Producers, reinforced the significance of the olive sector in supporting the national economy and providing job opportunities. He noted that the Kingdom is home to more than 11 million olive trees, underscoring the sector's vital role in agriculture. Najdawi also emphasized the importance of olive presses as strategic partners of the Ministry of Agriculture and other stakeholders in enhancing olive and oil production.
