New York: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is actively participating in the high-level international conference focused on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue at the United Nations. The conference is co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, highlighting a collaborative international effort to address this longstanding conflict.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Ambassador Samir Bakr, the Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Al-Quds Affairs, is leading the OIC delegation. The delegation includes Ambassador Hamid Obeleiro, the organization's representative to the United Nations, Mr. Adel Salama from the Palestine and Al-Quds Department, and Mr. Jean Iqbal from the organization's mission to the United Nations. The conference, which commenced at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, focuses on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question and the implementation of the two-state solution.
The three-day conference was inaugurated with speeches from key figures, including Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. They emphasized the significance of the meeting in mobilizing the international community's responsibility to protect the two-state solution, end the Israeli occupation, and work towards peace in the Middle East.
During the conference, participants will engage in eight sessions to discuss practical steps towards establishing a sovereign Palestinian state, ending the Israeli occupation, and achieving a lasting peace in line with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant UN resolutions.
