Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday condemned the Israeli draft law to impose the death penalty on Palestinian detainees. The organization expressed concerns over the implications of such a law on the peace and stability in the region.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the OIC stated that such unlawful and racist Israeli laws constitute a violation of the principles and rules of international humanitarian law, the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War, and relevant United Nations resolutions. The organization emphasized the importance of adhering to international norms and agreements to ensure the protection of detainees.
The OIC called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to put an end to all Israeli violations and to provide international protection for the Palestinian people. The statement urged global actors to intervene and ensure that international laws are upheld, highlighting the necessity of safeguarding human rights and dignity.
