Ramallah: Israeli authorities issued and renewed administrative detention orders against 93 detainees, including three females, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said on Wednesday. The period of detention varied between three and six months.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, in a joint statement, the commission and PPS reported that Israel continues to escalate the use of administrative detention under the pretext of possessing a "secret file." The administrative detention orders have been a point of contention, as they allow the detention of individuals without trial, often based on undisclosed evidence.
The statement also highlighted that as of last May, the number of administrative detainees had reached 3,376. This practice has drawn criticism from various human rights organizations and advocates who argue that it violates international human rights standards. The continued use of administrative detention has been a significant issue in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, impacting the lives of thousands of detainees and their families.
