Number of Palestinian Detainees in Israeli Bars Surges to Highest Since Second Intifada, Reaching Nearly 10,800

Gaza: The number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons has surged to approximately 10,800 as of early July, marking the highest prisoner count since the Second Intifada in 2000, according to a statement released Tuesday by Palestinian prisoners' advocacy groups.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the figure excludes those detained in Israeli military camps, where many from Gaza are believed to be held. Among the total prisoners, there are 50 women-two of them from Gaza-and more than 450 children.

The statement further highlighted that the number of administrative detainees-held without charge or trial-has climbed to 3,629, the highest proportion when compared to convicted prisoners and those classified by Israel as "unlawful combatants."

Additionally, 2,454 detainees are classified as "unlawful combatants," a designation that includes Palestinians as well as Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria. This figure does not account for all Gaza prisoners held in military camps.
