Oslo: The Norwegian government has announced its intention to prohibit its citizens and companies from engaging in trade involving goods produced within Israeli settlements located in the occupied Palestinian territories. This proposed legislation is part of Norway’s continued stance against activities they consider to perpetuate illegal settlement activity.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the proposed legislation is expected to pass in the Norwegian parliament. It will impose restrictions on both import and export transactions concerning goods originating from the Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories. Additionally, the legislation aims to curb real estate transactions linked to these territories.
Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide emphasized that “Norwegian citizens and companies should not profit from or support activities that perpetuate Israel’s illegal settlement activity in Palestine.” The move is consistent with Norway’s broader foreign policy approach concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and reflects its commitment to international law and human rights.
