The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources announced on Tuesday the opening of the shrimp fishing season in Yemeni marine waters in the Red Sea region, the start of opening from September 4, 2024. The Ministry's Resolution No. (8) of 1446 AH included the prohibition of shrimp fishing at night, and specifying fishing periods from five in the morning until five in the evening when granting boat exit permits. It also included a ban on fishing in shallow areas less than 10 meters deep, indicating that anyone who violates this will be subject to legal penalties, including the confiscation of catch quantities. The ministry called on the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea to follow up on the implementation of the decision, control violations and take legal action in this regard. The General Authority for Marine Sciences and Aquabiology Research also called for field visits to follow up on the presence of young shrimp in the catch every 10 days during the opening period of the season.
