A main UN building in Vienna -- the B Tower -- has been adorned with a huge mural depicting objectives of the 2030 sustainable development and the Summit of the Future Action Days, scheduled in New York September 20-21. The famous mural painter, Fintan Magee (Australian), said in remarks to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that he intended through this work to shed light on the UN's role in achieving peace worldwide. This colossal artistic work coincides with the upcoming 45th anniversary of inaugurating the Vienna International Center (VIC) on August 23, 1979. The artistic creation that decorates a main gate of the UN buildings is a symbol of the quest for attaining the 17 sustainable development goals, particularly the 16th objective that calls for peace, justice, and establishing powerful institutions. Ghada Waly, the executive director of the UN bureau in Vienna, expressed in a press statement her hope that this artistic work would be an inspiration for boosting sustainability, inter-nations understanding, and peace throughout the world. She indicated efforts aimed at rallying support for the Future Summit, that would be held in response to call by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, in 2022, to rebuild confidence in the UN charter and norms. Magi is an internationally renowned artist whose works ornament landmarks and iconic public locations in many cities. The Future Summit aims at establishing a multi-polar global order and affirming the charter of the international organization. The UN has chosen Tower B to bear Magee's exclusive work for it is situated close to the main gate of the UN premises, where thousands of people can be entertained with watching it every day. The mural is expected to draw the attention of up to 1.6 million people per month -- mainly motorists and train commuters. Source: Kuwait News Agency
