Lebanon Tuesday welcomed UN Security Council resolution 2735, calling for an immediate and total ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, a withdrawal of Israeli forces, an exchange of prisoners and detainees, and a safe return of displaced Gazans to their homes. In a statement, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry hailed the resolution's reiteration of a UN commitment to the two-state solution in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions. The ministry expressed hope that the resolution would reflect positively on the situation in Lebanon, and a full implementation of the 2006 Security Council Resolution 1701 to achieve permanent stability in south Lebanon.
