Justice Minister Urges Britain to Intervene in Israel-Gaza Conflict

Ramallah: Palestinian Minister of Justice Sharhabeel al-Zaim has urged Britain to take effective measures to halt what he describes as genocidal aggression by Israel in the Gaza Strip. He also called for the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid and a proactive role in addressing colonial expansion and settler aggression in the West Bank.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, this appeal was made during a meeting held by al-Zaim at his office in Ramallah with British Minister of State for International Development, Baroness Jenny Chapman. The meeting was also attended by British Consul General in Jerusalem, Helen Winterton, and British Deputy Consul for Political Affairs, Chris Parker, along with their accompanying delegation.

The Minister of Justice conveyed the greetings of President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian government, expressing appreciation for Britain's government, people, and king, as well as Britain's recent positions that have begun to align with truth and justice, representing a fundamental shift.

Al-Zaim highlighted the importance of a statement issued by the leaders of Britain, France, and Canada, which asserted they would take action if the occupation forces did not halt their aggression against Gaza. The statement also opposed the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and expressed a commitment to recognize a Palestinian state as part of achieving the two-state solution.

During the meeting, al-Zaim briefed the delegation on the developments in the justice sector in Palestine. He stressed the Palestinian government's readiness to take full responsibility in the Gaza Strip and its preparation of plans to do so immediately after the aggression ends. The Ministry of Justice has also prepared a plan to restore justice sector services in Gaza, aiming to strengthen the rule of law and public order.

Baroness Chapman, for her part, emphasized the need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and expressed concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation there. She affirmed that Britain will make every effort to ensure the immediate flow of food aid into the Gaza Strip and prevent famine.
