Amman: The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has issued a strong condemnation against the Israeli occupation authorities for preventing the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem from accessing the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to hold Palm Sunday Mass.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Ministry described this action as a violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the legal and historical status quo, infringing on the right to access places of worship without restriction.
Ambassador Fouad Majali, the Ministry's official spokesperson, emphasized Jordan's firm condemnation and rejection of Israel's measures that restrict Christians from accessing the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for religious ceremonies. He insisted on the importance of respecting the legal and historical status quo in Jerusalem and its sacred sites, asserting that Israel, as an occupying power, lacks sovereignty over Jerusalem. Majali stressed that measures hindering worshippers' access should be halted.
Majali further condemned Israel's continued closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram al-Sharif gates and restrictions on worship, labeling it a breach of international law and the legal and historical status quo. He warned of the risks associated with these ongoing actions.
The ambassador called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral obligations by pressuring Israel to stop its violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He urged respect for the city's historical and legal status and support for the Palestinian people's rights to an independent state based on the two-state solution.
