JFDA joins ICH in recognition of Jordan’s drug achievements

Amman: Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has joined International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH). The step comes in recognition of the Kingdom's "qualitative" efforts and achievements in the field of developing and applying the best scientific and technical standards, practices and legislation in the field of drugs and the country's "distinguished" reputation in this area. In a statement Wednesday, JFDA Director General, Dr. Nizar Mheidat, said the administration's membership in the ICH was announced during the ICH Assembly meeting, which was held Tuesday in Japan, and will emerge on the organization's website during the next week. Mheidat added that the JFDA has obtained international accreditation as a "leading" regulatory body with an "advanced" monitoring and regulatory system, confirming its commitment to the "highest" international standards for the quality, effectiveness and safety of pharmaceutical products. Mheidat said the JFD A's membership in the ICH, which aims to enhance coordination to ensure development and registration of safe, effective and high-quality drugs, proves Jordan's commitment to harmonize local regulatory requirements with global practices. This achievement would contribute to facilitate entry of Jordan's pharmaceutical industries into other markets, develop cooperation with various regulatory bodies and qualify the JFDA to provide training and capacity building programs, he pointed out. The JFDA, he noted, seeks to participate in various international programs to become a "leading" world regulatory, which supports coordination of efforts and exchange of information, which would develop the Kingdom's pharmaceutical industries, boost their exports to foreign markets, and support the national economy.
