JEDCO, UNDP sign MoU on promoting entrepreneurship

Amman: The Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to promote entrepreneurship and innovation, cooperate in implementing youth and women empowerment programs, and guide small and medium enterprises (SMEs) towards a green economy. The MoU, signed by JEDCO CEO Abdul Fattah Al Kayed and UNDP Resident Representative Randa Abulhoson, aims to support increased training, knowledge sharing, acceleration, and mentoring opportunities for entrepreneurs, and support SMEs to access resources and connect with potential investors and financial service providers to support their growth journey. It also aims to explore opportunities to provide financial literacy, to increase awareness of topics related to financial literacy among farmers and entrepreneurs by offering educational initiatives and training programs, and to promote the transition towards a thriving green economy in Jordan. Through the MoU, the t wo parties will work to support SMEs to implement environmentally friendly initiatives and create sustainable employment opportunities for youth by providing financial and technical support, mentoring, and building partnerships with investors. The MoU focuses on capacity building and business support programs for target groups such as youth and women, focusing on environmentally friendly projects, entrepreneurship, smart solutions in agricultural practices and marketing, new high-value crops, and green and circular economy. The two parties will partner in conducting joint activities aimed at enhancing the protection of small farmers through joint cooperation to support comprehensive agricultural insurance programs, develop innovative solutions to ease the financial burden on farmers, and facilitate their access to the necessary financing. The MoU seeks to boost the capacity of farmers and agricultural institutions in Jordan to counter the challenges of climate change, develop innovative water management so lutions, such as rainwater harvesting systems, and provide the necessary financial and technical support to implement these solutions. It also seeks to promote learning and knowledge sharing, through the exchange of staff to learn from each other's practices, develop common knowledge management systems, and share lessons learned from the implementation of projects.
