Ramallah: The Grant Contract for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) was signed today between Araike Katsuhiko, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine, and the representatives of Beita Municipality, Mazari Annubani Village Council, and Madama Village Council, at the Representative Office of Japan to Palestine in Ramallah, for an amount of $410,909, according to a press release issued by the Representative Office of Japan to Palestine.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Beita Municipality will utilize $143,319 to enhance its electrical infrastructure. The project involves the installation of two 400 kVA transformers, two distribution boards, and three lattice towers, along with extending 1,665 meters of high voltage line. This upgrade aims to provide stable electricity to approximately 600 households and two schools, mitigating power outages and reducing the risk of electric shock accidents.
Mazari Annubani Village Council plans to use $138,320 to install 2,530 meters of steel pipes in areas currently lacking water network connections. This project is expected to ensure a stable water supply for over 2,400 farmers for agricultural purposes and improve access to clean water for 48 households, benefiting approximately 200 people in the village.
Madama Village Council will receive $129,270 to install a 630 kVA transformer and extend 1,350 meters of high voltage line. This initiative will supply stable electricity to about 200 households and a school, while also enhancing water access for around 600 households through the operation of electric water pumps, serving approximately 1,000 people with electricity and 3,000 people with clean water.
Araike Katsuhiko congratulated the representatives of the three councils and reaffirmed Japan's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people through projects that enhance social and economic development, emphasizing the importance of human security. Since 1993, Japan has provided approximately $2.5 billion in official development assistance to the Palestinians, with GGP projects being a key component since 2010.
