Israeli Police Detain 40 Palestinian Workers in Tira, Heightening Tensions

Tira: Israeli police detained 40 Palestinian workers from the city of Tira, located in the Triangle area in the 1948 Territories. The workers, all holders of West Bank identity cards, were detained under the pretext of residing without permits as they entered the area seeking employment opportunities for their families' livelihood.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, this incident is part of a larger pattern where hundreds of Palestinian workers have been recently detained and harassed by Israeli police for purportedly lacking entry permits. Even those with valid permits face significant challenges, including leaving their homes in the predawn hours, waiting in long queues, and undergoing inspections at Israeli checkpoints before reaching their workplaces in the 1948 Territories.

A World Bank report indicated that approximately 150,000 workers from the West Bank have lost their jobs in the 1948 Territories due to tightened restrictions in place since October 2023.
