Nablus: Israeli occupation forces have issued a military order to relocate the Hamra checkpoint, currently situated on the road connecting Nablus with Jericho, closer to the village of Ain Shibli east of Nablus, local officials reported on Sunday.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Governor of Nablus, Ghassan Daghlas, stated that the area is experiencing land leveling by Israeli authorities to facilitate the checkpoint's relocation. This development has raised concerns over potential land confiscation aimed at easing settler movement and tightening control over the northern and central Jordan Valley.
Meanwhile, the head of the Ain Shibli village council, Jamal Al-Omari, disclosed that the council was notified days ago about the Israeli military's plan to move the checkpoint and seize approximately 12 dunums of village land for military purposes.
The current Hamra checkpoint is located at a significant crossroads linking West Bank cities to the central, southern, and northern Jordan Valley. It serves as a main route for thousands of Palestinians commuting to work in the Jordan Valley.
