Israeli Forces Raid Palestinian School Amid Parents’ Protest Against Education Policies

Silwan: Israeli occupation forces stormed the vicinity of a Palestinian-owned school in Silwan on Monday, coinciding with a protest held by teachers and students.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, local sources reported that the occupation forces entered the area surrounding the Silwan Preparatory School for Boys. This incursion happened as residents and students organized a protest against the occupation's policies of relocating the school and altering the curriculum to reflect Israeli perspectives.

The soldiers gave participants only a few minutes to disperse. This escalation comes in the wake of mounting tensions over education policies that many locals see as an imposition by the occupation authorities.

The Central Parents' Committee in Silwan and Ras al-Amud had announced a comprehensive, open-ended strike in all schools in the town, beginning Monday. The strike is in protest against what the committee describes as unjust and arbitrary measures imposed by the occupation municipality on schools and students in the area.

The committee clarified in a statement that these decisions impact students' right to education and threaten their academic future. It emphasized that it "will not back down from its protest steps until the decisions are rescinded and legitimate demands are met."

The committee urged all parents to adhere to the strike and not send their children to school, highlighting that this action aims to defend students' right to an uncompromised education.

The committee also stated that the arbitrary measures are part of the occupation's ongoing attempts to control the education sector in occupied Jerusalem. It affirmed that residents of Silwan and Ras al-Amud will continue their legitimate struggle to ensure justice and protect their children's futures.
