Hebron: Israeli forces have placed locks on all the doors of the Ibrahimi Mosque, including access points to the Tomb of Joseph, the "incense burner" room, the call to prayer room, and the custodians' room in the occupied section.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs reported these actions, emphasizing that they undermine the ministry's sovereignty over the mosque's various parts.
The ministry issued a statement on Monday condemning the actions as a dangerous step intended to compromise its control over the mosque's corridors, courtyards, rooms, and doors. The statement called for a serious stance from the international community, urging the protection of religious sites and holding the occupation accountable for these actions. The ministry highlighted the systematic attempts to transform the mosque into a synagogue for Jewish Talmudic prayers.
Sheikh Moataz Abu Sneineh, the director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, asserted that the Islamic Waqf maintains ownership and legal jurisdiction over all shrines and porticoes within the mosque. He described the situation as a significant violation of the sanctity of these religious sites.
The Waqf has called on the people of Hebron to resist these incursions by maintaining a presence in the mosque through prayer and religious activities.
