Israeli Forces Erect Flying Checkpoint in Jericho, Disrupting Traffic

JERICHO: Israeli occupation forces on Wednesday established a temporary checkpoint in downtown Jericho, disrupting the movement of Palestinian-registered vehicles, according to security sources.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Israeli forces stormed the city and set up the checkpoint at the beginning of Banks Street. This unexpected measure obstructed traffic, causing delays for residents navigating the area. During the operation, the forces reportedly broke into and ransacked a local money exchange shop.

Israel implements a range of measures that significantly restrict Palestinians' freedom of movement. These include over 100 fixed checkpoints, temporary flying checkpoints, and settler-only roads, among other physical obstructions. The closures, along with other security measures, are cited by Israel as necessary for security purposes. However, critics argue that these actions serve to entrench Israel's long-standing military occupation of the West Bank, which has lasted 57 years, and support its settler colonial project. These measures are often enforced with routine and sometimes deadly violence against Palestinians.
