Post: Israeli Forces Compel Qalandia Homeowners to Remove Remaining Structures

Qalandia: Israeli occupation forces on Sunday compelled the owners of seven demolished homes in the village of Qalandia, located north of occupied Jerusalem, to remove and demolish all remaining parts of their houses.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Israeli forces instructed the homeowners to bring in heavy machinery once again to complete the demolition and clear away any structures that remained standing following Saturday's demolition campaign.

Israeli authorities had previously mandated a Palestinian family to self-demolish its home in Qalandia, citing a lack of an Israeli-issued building permit. On Saturday, the Awadallah family demolished six homes on their own, while a seventh house was self-demolished on Friday to avoid the high demolition costs and fines imposed by Israeli authorities when carrying out such demolitions.

Israeli authorities in occupied Jerusalem continue to deny Palestinians building permits, while routinely demolishing homes or forcing residents to carry out self-demolitions. These actions are part of policies that Palestinians claim aim to restrict their presence and force their displacement from the city amid ongoing colonial expansion in and around Jerusalem.
