Israeli Courts Postpone Hearings for Palestinian Detainees Indefinitely Amid Emergency

Tel aviv: Israeli courts have postponed all sessions related to Palestinian detainees indefinitely, including hearings for confirmation, appeals, and pleadings, with no new dates scheduled. This decision comes amid a state of emergency declared by Israeli occupation authorities, affecting the legal proceedings for numerous detainees.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, a joint press statement from the Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS) highlighted the lack of updates on administrative detention orders, whether new or renewed. This situation means that detainees who were scheduled for release but remain in custody have had their administrative detention automatically extended without any formal notification.

The statement further explained that military court sessions are currently confined to detention-extension hearings only, with no other cases being addressed. Additionally, all prison visits for the week have been canceled, with the potential for these cancellations to extend into the following week.

Regarding petitions to the High Court, those submitted prior to the emergency declaration are still pending, with decisions to be announced in the future. The courts are currently only accepting new petitions that are deemed extremely necessary.

Jamil Saadeh, Director of the Legal Department at the Commission, stated that the organization is vigilantly monitoring all legal cases and is committed to protecting the legal rights of detainees during these challenging times. The Commission is striving to ensure that no legal action that could impact the rights of detainees is neglected.
