Israeli Court Rejects Appeal to Reduce Sentence of Palestinian Child Prisoner

Jerusalem: The Israeli occupation court has rejected the appeal submitted to reduce the sentence of 14-year-old Palestinian child prisoner Mohammed Al-Zalbani from Jerusalem. The appeal sought to lower the 18-year sentence currently being served by Al-Zalbani.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the court also declined to credit the two years Al-Zalbani has already served in Israeli detention toward his overall sentence. Furthermore, the court refused to reduce the substantial 250,000 shekel fine that has been imposed on him, maintaining the original conditions of his sentence.

Al-Zalbani, who hails from the Shuafat refugee camp in occupied Jerusalem, was detained by Israeli occupation forces on February 13, 2023. His detention and subsequent sentencing have drawn significant attention and highlighted the ongoing tensions in the region.

At the end of 2023, Israeli forces demolished the family home of Mohammed Al-Zalbani in Shuafat, adding another layer of complexity to the already strained situation faced by his family and the broader community.
