Israeli Blockade Severely Impacts Gaza’s Children, Says UN Agency

Gaza: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported that children in Gaza are facing severe hardships due to the ongoing Israeli blockade. The blockade, now in its sixth week, has restricted the entry of essential aid and commercial supplies into the region.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, UNRWA highlighted the dire situation in a recent post on X, featuring an image of two children dragging a cart filled with water containers. Since March 2, the Israeli government has enforced a closure on Gaza's crossings, hindering the delivery of crucial supplies such as food and water. This blockade has resulted in a humanitarian crisis, exacerbating food and water scarcity.

UNRWA emphasized that in northern Gaza, children are desperately searching for water instead of attending school or playing. The blockade has severely restricted access to clean water, food, shelter, and medical care. Furthermore, the disruption of water supplies from the Israeli company Mekorot, which accounts for 70% of Gaza City's water, has intensified the water crisis.

The agency has called for an immediate ceasefire, urging a swift resolution to alleviate the suffering of Gaza's children and address the growing humanitarian needs.
