Israeli Authorities Compel Palestinian to Self-Demolish Home Near Jerusalem

Jerusalem: The Israeli occupation authorities forced a Palestinian to self-demolish his home in the town of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, a resident of Wadi Hilweh neighborhood in Silwan was compelled to demolish his own house to avoid incurring exorbitant fees that would be charged if the Jerusalem Municipality executed the demolition.

The occupation authorities routinely compel Palestinians, especially in occupied Jerusalem, to self-demolish their homes under the pretext that they lack a permit. The Jerusalem Municipality systematically denies Palestinians building permits, a practice viewed as part of Israel's broader policy to forcibly displace Palestinians from occupied East Jerusalem. This strategy facilitates the expansion of illegal colonies in and around the city.
