Tel aviv: Israel is set to mobilize 60,000 reserve soldiers as part of a military operation to occupy Gaza City. This move follows the approval of a military initiative, "Gideon 2," by Defense Minister Yisrael Katz.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the call-up orders, scheduled to be dispatched tomorrow, are part of a broader strategy that includes extending the service of 20,000 current soldiers for an additional 40 days. While the orders will be issued imminently, the soldiers are expected to report for duty at the beginning of September.
This mobilization follows consultations between Katz and top Israeli military and security officials, as well as a decision by the Security Cabinet. Israeli Army Chief Eyal Zamir has detailed the operational phases, which involve strengthening forces in the northern Gaza Strip as a preliminary step toward the occupation of Gaza City.
The plan, which was initially proposed on August 8 by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, aims for a phased reoccupation of the Gaza Strip, starting with strategic control over Gaza City. A key aspect of the plan includes the displacement of around one million Palestinian residents from Gaza City to the southern part of the Gaza Strip, followed by encirclement and incursions into residential areas.
