BRUSSELS: Spain and Ireland called the European Commission to urgently investigate whether Israel is complying with its human rights obligations in Gaza Strip. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on the 'X' platform "that his country and Ireland asked the European Commission to examine the extent of Israel's compliance with its human rights obligations." Spanish and Irish governments urgently called on the European to open an immediate investigation to look into the catastrophic situation in Rafah city. "Given the critical situation in Rafah, the Spanish and Irish governments sent a letter to the European Commission asking it to conduct an urgent investigation into whether Israel is fulfilling its obligations to respect human rights in Gaza." The two countries stressed the need for continued support of the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stressing that the European Union's commitment to human rights and dignity cannot have exceptions.
