Iraq protests against Turkish military incursions into Kurdistan

The Iraqi national security council met on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani to discuss the recent Turkish military incursions into Duhok governorate in the Kurdistan Region, north Iraq. Rejecting the incursions, the council called on neighboring Turkiye to engage in security coordination with the Iraqi authorities instead, according to a statement issued by the council following the meeting. "Iraq is firmly opposed to the Turkish incursions that tamper with its sovereignty," the statement said. It called on Turkiye to pay due consideration to the principles of neighborliness, diplomacy, and cooperation while addressing any security problems. Iraqi news media have recently carried photos of Turkish soldiers and military vehicles tracking down elements of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Duhok. Source: Kuwait News Agency
