Iran’s IRGC Defuses Unexploded US Bombs in Western Region

Tehran: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) announced the successful defusing of three unexploded US-made MK-84 aircraft bombs in the country's western region. The discovery and neutralization unit of the IRGC carried out the operation, ensuring the safety of the Lorestan province, where the bombs were found.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iran's state-run broadcaster IRIB cited the IRGC in its report on the defusing operation. The MK-84 bombs, each weighing 2,000 pounds (900 kg), have the potential to create craters up to 11 meters (36 feet) deep when detonated, posing a significant threat to the surrounding area.

The discovery comes amid heightened tensions in the region following joint military strikes by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28. In retaliation, Tehran launched strikes on Israel and other countries in the region hosting US military assets.

The conflict has been temporarily suspended due to a two-week ceasefire mediated by Pakistan, which was announced by Washington and Tehran on April 8. This ceasefire is scheduled to expire on Wednesday, raising concerns about the potential resumption of hostilities if a diplomatic resolution is not reached.
