Industry Office in Hajjah.. What is achieved in terms of developing services??

During the past year 1444 AH, the Office of Industry and Commerce in Hajjah Governorate was able to work on developing performance and strengthening market supervision.

Over the past year, the office’s management has paid attention to strengthening field monitoring, fixing the price list, supporting local producers, and creating competition among Yemeni companies.

The management of the Office of Industry and Trade focused on working in accordance with the national vision for building a modern state, and the programs and plans drawn up according to the directives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

A report issued by the office, which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), indicated that the field teams seized 820 violations in the past year, 1444, during 1,136 field visits targeting 16,172 shops.

The report stated that the violations were distributed between 157 non-disclosure of prices, 99 violations of raising the price, 271 damaged and finished commodities, and 95 violations of the weight of bread.

It also reported that there were 82 violations of precautionary measures, 5 improper storage, 10 commercial fraud, 13 violations of specifications, 21 lack of packages and sizes, 3 refusals to inspect, 5 health requirements, one violation of lack of a scale, and 39 others.

It explained that the office took the appropriate measures against the violators, as the procedures included fining 306, confiscating 95, pledging 173, 17 closures, 15 referrals to the prosecution, and the arrest of 2, in addition to 283 violations under procedure.

169 trade registers had been cut, of which 158 were new and 11 were renewed, spread between 25 imports, 57 fragments, 21 sentences, 4 craftsmen, 39 services and 23 contractors.

The report stated that the Office worked to strengthen and document indirect oversight work and coordinate with relevant entities in the work of monitoring expired materials that are contrary to standards.

The Office’s role in supporting the efforts of the Yemeni Standards and Standards Authority to raise awareness of the importance of measurement, proxy, weight and all forms of standard calibration and to implement field campaigns in that regard.

As part of plans to support and encourage local producers, the report indicated that in 1444, the third annual exhibit of local products was held, as was the completion of the inventory of the governorate’s poultry farms.

Last year saw the opening of the first consumer exhibition in the governorate on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, which included 50 sections of basic foodstuffs, consumables and clothing with the participation of Yemeni companies.

According to the report, efforts by the provincial leadership and the Bureau of Industry to follow up on the gas company in operating five plants that were parked to meet citizens’ domestic gas needs after having had one plant in operation over the past years, while the rest of the plants will be operational during the current year.

Mahmoud Wahban, director of the governorate’s Bureau of Industry and Trade, said that work was under way to follow up on the industrial zone in coordination with the land and investment authorities, geological space and the Industrial Chamber of Commerce to promote and attract investment opportunities and establish factories in the governorate.

The office is working hard to activate the Industrial Control Department and to contract with specialized engineers in the industrial field, in order to enable the granting of licenses to industrial facilities.

He referred to activating the community contribution through community committees, in cooperation with the media in the governorate, in supporting the efforts of the Trade and Industry Office in the work of monitoring and inspecting prices, raising awareness and reporting violations.

Wahban reviewed a number of difficulties facing the workflow, represented by the scarcity of capabilities, the delay in processing lands allocated for the industrial zone, and the lack of interaction of a number of local councils in the directorates with the branches of the Industry Office.
