Gaza: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced on Monday that it facilitated the transfer of eight Palestinian detainees from Israel to the Gaza Strip.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the ICRC stated that it had facilitated the transfer of these detainees, who were released from Israeli imprisonment, to Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah via the Karm Abu Salem border crossing. The ICRC team played a crucial role in helping them restore contact and reunify with their families.
The ICRC further revealed that it had been unable to access Palestinian detainees in Israeli detention centers since October 2023. The organization emphasized the necessity of being informed about the fate and locations of all Palestinian detainees and stressed the importance of gaining immediate access to them.
Under international humanitarian law, detainees are entitled to humane treatment, proper conditions, and family contact. The ICRC highlighted its commitment to these principles, noting that many Palestinian families are still awaiting information about their detained loved ones, with concerns about their health and safety.
The ICRC concluded by expressing its intent to remain in communication with the Israeli occupation authorities to facilitate the resumption of visits to all detainees.
