Gaza: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced on Monday that it had facilitated the transfer of 13 released detainees from the Kerem Shalom (Karm Abu Salem) crossing to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the Gaza Strip.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the ICRC assisted the 13 released prisoners in re-establishing contact and reuniting with their families. The organization noted that since 2023, it has facilitated the transfer of over 2,500 released detainees through similar mechanisms.
The ICRC also highlighted that it has been unable to access Palestinian detainees held in Israeli detention facilities since October 2023. It reiterated its call for information regarding the fate and whereabouts of all detainees and for permission to visit them, emphasizing the need for humane treatment, adequate conditions of detention, and the maintenance of family contact under international humanitarian law.
The agency noted that many Palestinian families continue to await information about their detained relatives amid growing concern for their health and safety. The ICRC emphasized that it maintains dialogue with the Israeli authorities to resume visits to all Palestinian detainees.
