By Dhari Al-Duweesh KUWAIT, Kuwaiti legislation has been shaped in a way that promotes the principles of human rights in a broader sense, which include the fight against human trafficking, the country's Justice Minister Mohammad Al-Wasmi said on Tuesday. Kuwait's government is hard at work to clamp down on scourges such as human trafficking, the minister told KUNA against the backdrop of "The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons," a United Nations initiative aiming to raise awareness about the matter. Citing national progress in efforts to fight human trafficking, the minister spoke of a human rights system that offers "broad protection" to children in a bid to shield them from such nefarious practices, while judicial reforms have been made to ensure similar protection to those "most vulnerable" to the scourge, the minister underlined. These efforts include the formation of a national ad hoc committee comprised of various state bodies devoted to anti-human trafficking measures, in addition to strategies to fight the illegal smuggling of migrants, he added. Identifying the victims of human trafficking and ensuring their protection are among the perennial goas of the aforementioned committee, said the minister, describing such measures as a humanitarian obligation.
