Human Rights Office in Taiz condemns mercenaries’ demolition of shrine of Allama al-Sururi in Lahj

The Human Rights Office in Taiz province condemned on Saturday the aggression's mercenaries' demolition of the shrine of Allama Ali Ibrahim Al-Sururi in Torbat Abu Al-Asrar in Al Madaribah District, Lahj province.

In a statement, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the Human Rights Office in Taiz denounced the mercenaries' attack on Al-Sururi's website, exhuming it, tampering with its contents and destroying parts of it.

He pointed out that the attack on Al-Sururi shrine comes within the plan of the coalition countries to target and destroy shrines, graves, mosques, and historical and archaeological monuments in Yemen with the aim of igniting the fire of sedition, pointing out that many shrines, cemeteries and historical mosques in the coastal districts of Taiz and Hodeida, and the areas controlled by the countries of the aggression coalition, they have been systematically bombed, targeted, destroyed, exhumed and tampered with during the previous years.

The statement stated that the number of Islamic shrines and monuments that were targeted and destroyed in Taiz by the militias affiliated with the countries of aggression, whether by bombing the aggression coalition aircraft or by demolishing and excavating, reached 15, including the tomb of the scholar Jamal al-Din al-Junaid and the shrine of Sheikh Hassan bin Sinan.

The Human Rights Office considered these actions contrary to the teachings of the Islamic religion and criminalized by international norms and laws, holding the countries of the aggression coalition and its mercenaries all legal and moral responsibility for that.

The statement urged all media and international organizations, including UNESCO and the concerned local ones, to shoulder their responsibility, monitor and document these crimes, and work to prosecute the perpetrators so that justice reaches them.
