Health Ministry organizes Workshop on WHO’s Country Cooperation Strategy
The Ministry of Public Health and Population on Saturday organized a workshop on the WHO country cooperation strategy in Yemen.
The workshop, with the participation of undersecretaries, directors of health offices in the provinces, program managers and representatives of the World Health Organization, discussed the role of the Ministry of Health in developing the country’s cooperation strategy, its priorities, and the ministry’s directions and strategy.
The workshop presented an introduction to the process of developing the cooperation strategy, its priorities, the frameworks of the global strategy, the humanitarian and development context, and joint international support.
In the workshop, the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakel, reviewed the effects of the aggression and blockade on the health sector and its destruction of the infrastructure, and the consequent deterioration of the health situation and the increase in the suffering of patients.
He emphasized that women and children were directly targeted by the countries of aggression, which caused long-term psychological and physical suffering.. indicating that the aggression killed more than eight thousand children and women over eight years.
Minister Al-Mutawakel touched on the efforts exerted to improve the health sector, stressing the importance of the country’s cooperation strategy between the Ministry and global health to overcome many difficulties.
He reviewed the draft strategy, its objectives and importance, stressing the Ministry’s endeavor to ensure the provision of sustainable and high-quality health services.
He called on the World Health Organization to raise its voice loudly in international forums to stop the aggression and lift the blockade.
For his part, the representative of the Health Organization in Yemen, Dr. Arturo Pesigan, explained that the strategy aims to reach quality health services for all Yemenis, as well as support the Ministry’s strategy and its conformity and balance with the continuity and sustainability of services.
He pointed out the importance of focusing on the priorities that will be implemented under the name of the country’s cooperation strategy, pointing out that the implementation of this strategy will be followed up by the ministry and the organization.
