The Iraqi National Security Service announced the overthrow of a network involved in three crimes in Basra Governorate. The Service stated in a statement: "In continuation of the role of the National Security Service in pursuing organized crime gangs, confirmed intelligence information was received by the Service's detachments in Basra Governorate about the existence of a network practicing (prostitution, extortion and drug trafficking) in one of the houses in the city center." It added: "After collecting evidence, determining the exact location of the network and obtaining judicial approvals, the Service was able to arrest (4) members of the network (a man and three women), as they confessed to luring citizens to a house in the center of the governorate and tricking them into taking drugs and practicing prostitution, then filming them and blackmailing them financially.
