Berlin: The German government has called on Israel to halt settlement activity in the West Bank ahead of Chancellor Friedrich Merz's planned visit to Tel Aviv. Deputy government spokesman Sebastian Helle stated at a press conference in Berlin that "settlement construction violates international law and contravenes relevant UN Security Council resolutions." According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Helle reiterated Germany's position, emphasizing the country's consistent call to the Israeli government to stop settlement construction. He expressed concerns that such activities are detrimental to achieving a peaceful resolution in the region. Helle further rejected any steps toward the annexation of the West Bank, viewing them as significant barriers to a negotiated two-state solution and the effective implementation of the peace plan. He underscored Berlin's consistent condemnation of violence by colonists against Palestinian civilians, aligning with international efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
