Post: French Foreign Minister Asserts Commitment to Recognize Palestine

Paris: French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has announced that France is resolute in its decision to recognize the State of Palestine. In a recent interview with French channel LCI, Barrot addressed the ongoing developments in the Middle East, emphasizing France's stance on the contentious issue.

According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Barrot highlighted the tragic incident in the Gaza Strip last May, where 500 Palestinians were killed and approximately 4 others were injured during a food distribution effort. He condemned the loss of life, labeling it as "shameful and an affront to human dignity." He further stated that both France and Europe are prepared to assist in ensuring safe food distribution in Gaza.

In a significant diplomatic move on May 22, 2024, Norway, Ireland, and Spain declared their official recognition of the State of Palestine, a decision set to take effect on May 28. This development follows the recognition by eight other European Union member states, namely Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Cyprus, and Sweden.

Currently, 149 out of 193 United Nations member states recognize Palestine, reflecting a growing international acknowledgment of Palestinian statehood.
