Foreign Ministry Welcomes UN’s Adoption of Pro-Palestine Resolutions.

Ramallah: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has welcomed the United Nations General Assembly's recent adoption of two resolutions supporting Palestine. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the General Assembly passed the 'Peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine' resolution with significant backing, as 57 countries voted in favor, 7 abstained, and 8 opposed it. Additionally, the resolution titled 'Division for Palestinian Rights of the Secretariat' saw 101 nations voting in favor, while 42 abstained and 27 voted against it. The Ministry emphasized the importance of these resolutions, highlighting the need to end Israeli occupation and achieve the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. It noted that these resolutions, along with international law, are fundamental to resolving the Palestinian issue. The 'Peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine' resolution includes mechanisms for an international peace conference, set to be held under the UN General A ssembly's auspices during its seventy-ninth session, with Saudi Arabia and France chairing in June 2025. The Ministry expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia and France for their roles in chairing the upcoming conference, emphasizing its significance in shaping a collective path towards a peaceful resolution and the implementation of the two-state solution. It further stressed that the Division for Palestinian Rights of the Secretariat resolution affirmed the need to commemorate the Nakba anniversary with annual events and dissemination of relevant archives and testimonies. Appreciation was extended to the countries that supported, sponsored, and voted in favor of the resolutions, with special mention for those that changed their votes in favor. The Ministry urged countries that opposed the resolutions to reconsider their positions and join the international consensus to restore hope for peace and stability in the Middle East. The Ministry reiterated that lasting peace in the region is unattainable without end ing the Israeli occupation, fulfilling the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and establishing an independent, sovereign State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.
