The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates today considered the proposal by the extremist Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to allocate millions of dollars in the 2023 budget to entrench colonization in the Palestinian territories a disregard for international and American positions in support of the two-state solution. It warned in a statement that approving this proposal indicates Israeli persistence in accelerating the pace of the annexation of the occupied West Bank. The Ministry said that extremist Israeli cabinet officials, supported by some influential countries, are exploiting the genocidal war against the Gaza Strip to create new facts on the ground in the occupied West Bank, serving their colonial ambitions to impose Israeli law on it and erase the so-called 'green line' that separates the West Bank from Israel. While holding the Israeli government fully responsible for any consequences if it approves Smotrich's proposals, the Foreign Ministry called on the international community a nd the US administration to quickly intervene and put real pressure on the Israeli government to force it not to approve such proposals that would plunge the region into more conflicts and cycles of violence that will be difficult to contain.
