Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that implementing the two-state solution will provide "permanent security" for the region, stressing that the world cannot wait for Israel to agree to it. Fidan added in a speech during a ministerial meeting of the Arab-Islamic Contact Group on Gaza formed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League, the European Union and Norway on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York: "We cannot wait for Israel's goodwill to implement the two-state solution." He pointed out that "the decision of the Israeli parliament to deny the Palestinian state and the two-state solution is clear enough," stressing that "this is pure greed that should not be tolerated." Fidan stressed that the series of killings carried out by Israel relentlessly in Gaza continues without end. He explained that "ceasefire talks have reached a dead end because Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has torpedoed them whenever a ceasefire seems within reach." He a dded that "Israel has expanded its aggression first to the West Bank and East Jerusalem and now to Lebanon and our region is on fire because of Netanyahu." He pointed out that his country has long stressed that leaving the Palestinian issue unresolved will drag the entire region into a "black hole." He said: "This is exactly what is happening now in Lebanon, our region is on fire because of Netanyahu and we are currently going through a decisive moment. The aggression launched by Israel has raised a sincere awareness of the reality of the problem." He explained that nine other countries have recently recognized the State of Palestine, expressing his confidence that more countries will follow suit. He added: "The Palestinian state is not a fantasy dream, it is a reality, and we must all internalize this reality in our words and actions." He pointed out that the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice and the UN General Assembly resolution of May 10, 2024 opened a new path, adding that "now we lack one veto to achieve our goal." Fidan stressed that "the State of Palestine must be a full member of the United Nations," stressing that "implementing the two-state solution will also ensure permanent security for all, and it must be implemented before it is too late."
