Brussels - Together - The European Union announced today, Tuesday, that more than 2,000 trucks carrying humanitarian aid and commercial goods are stuck on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip. The European Union Directorate General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid explained on the 'X' platform that 'due to the intense (Israeli) military operations, the Rafah crossing remains closed.' She added, "More than 2,000 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid and commercial goods are waiting and ready to enter Gaza." The European Union called for "the delivery of humanitarian aid in a sustainable, safe and unhindered manner." The Directorate published a short video on 'X' showing a large number of trucks carrying food supplies, lined up on a large area of ??land, and said that they were on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing. On May 6, the Israeli army announced the start of a military operation in Rafah, ignoring international warnings about its repercussions on the lives o f the city's displaced people, and the next day it took control of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has launched an aggression against Gaza that has left nearly 122,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of children and the elderly. Israel continues its war despite a decision by the UN Security Council to stop it immediately, and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip, and to take measures to prevent acts of 'genocide' and improve the miserable humanitarian situation in Gaza.
