Cairo: With the attendance of President Mahmoud Abbas, the emergency Arab summit Tuesday evening kick-started in Cairo. President Abbas is scheduled Tuesday to deliver a speech before the summit on the recent developments in Palestine and is slated to meet a number of Arab leaders on the sidelines of the summit.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the summit is held at the request of the State of Palestine and is intended to coordinate positions on the challenges and grave developments related to the Palestinian question. The primary focus is to reach an Arab consensus on preparing a plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip that would avoid the displacement of the Palestinian population, consolidate the Gaza ceasefire, and enable the State of Palestine to assume its responsibilities in the Strip.

The summit aims to establish a consensus on halting Israeli practices in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem. It seeks to implement the two-state solution by ending the Israeli occupation and establishing the Palestinian state within the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, to bring about a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace to the region.
