Egyptian FM cautions against Sudan conflict spilling over into neighboring countries
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said Tuesday the continuation of the crisis in Sudan is a source of profound concern for Egypt and other neighbors of Sudan.
The adverse impacts of the conflict have to do with not only the issue of refugees but the historical bonds among the peoples of the region as well, he said in press briefing following the meeting of the Arab ministerial committee on Syria. He stressed the need of restoring the security and stability in Sudan and maintain its territorial unity in order to enable its legitimate institutions play their roles in serving the Sudanese people.
The minister called for working out a roadmap for Sudan’s neighbors to communicate directly with the various parties to the conflict for helping contain the crisis, deescalate the hostilities, and address the humanitarian disaster. He highlighted the importance of addressing the political dispute through cooperation among local and regional stakeholders, and mutually-acceptable compromises.
Chadian President Idriss Deby will notify the leaders of Sudan and neighboring countries of the relevant roadmap for endorsement as prelude to implementation, the Egyptian minister disclosed
