Egypt condemns Israeli Knesset’s approval of bill banning UNRWA operations
Egypt condemned on Tuesday the Israeli Knesset’s approval of two bills that limit the work of the UN Relief Agency UNRWA, significantly limiting its ability to provide support to Palestinians in the occupied territories.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry denounced the Israeli Knesset’s decision as part of a longstanding pattern of violations of international and humanitarian law. The ministry emphasized that these actions demonstrate a concerning disregard for the international community and the United Nations.
Egypt reiterated its strong opposition to all Israeli practices aimed at displacing Palestinians from their lands and undermining the right of return and compensation for Palestinian refugees.
Egypt urged the international community and UN bodies, particularly the Security Council, to take a strong stance against what it describes as blatant and systematic Israeli violations. The Egyptian government condemned Israel for not only committing crimes against Palestinian civ
ilians but also for actively obstructing efforts aimed at alleviating their suffering.
The statement emphasized the vital role of UNRWA and highlighted the urgent need for the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, cautioning against the persistent failure of the international system to uphold its humanitarian principles and values.
