Caretaker Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor visited today the National Program to Control Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases in the capital secretariat. During the visit, Dr. Bin Habtoor met with the Center's Director General, Dr. Ihab Al-Saqqaf, who gave him a brief presentation about the program's activity and the diagnostic and therapeutic services it provides to patients with tuberculosis in general and diseases in general. He explained that the program, which began its medical and therapeutic work in 1986, has extensive experience and national medical and health cadres who are highly competent in their fields of expertise. He pointed out that the program possesses the latest medical and diagnostic equipment that is compatible with international standards, noting the support of the leadership of the Ministry of Health for the program and its sponsorship of its activities. Al-Saqqaf pointed out that the poor and most needy social segments of all ages are the group that benefits most from the program's services, as they are most vulnerable to contracting tuberculosis diseases. He indicated that the program, in addition to its medical and therapeutic activities, plays a training and educational role for students of medical institutes and colleges in its field of specialization. He stated that the number of medical cases that the program receives annually exceeds ten thousand cases, pointing to the difficulties facing the center, which were exacerbated by the repercussions of the aggression and the siege, expressing the program's aspiration for support and assistance that will enable it to overcome the challenges and perform its role. Dr. Bin Habtoor praised the efforts of the program leadership and all the medical, health and administrative staff working in the program, which plays a major role towards the patients who benefit from its services. He directed the concerned authorities to work to provide the urgent needs specified for the program in performing its health and humanitarian duty towar ds the most affected and poorest segment of society. He praised the great role played by this program to contain the disease, control it, and prevent its spread, and its role in reducing the financial burdens on the state and citizens.
