Hurricane "Milton" caused dozens of tornadoes and heavy rainfall in the US state of Florida, but the most dramatic scene was the appearance of deep sinkholes and large landslides. Large sinkholes were reported in Polk and Hillsborough counties, where local authorities asked residents to remain alert in the wake of the storm, as the terrain can expand without warning. Photos published by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office showed pipes, part of a sidewalk and a road swallowed by a sinkhole in a residential community southeast of Tampa. A local resident said they found themselves virtually trapped in their neighborhood and had to walk around the giant depression. A similar scene occurred in eastern Polk County, where a large sinkhole appeared between two homes in a community located between Lackland and Zephyrhills. One Tampa homeowner said his yard began to collapse overnight. No injuries were reported, but the sinkhole swallowed a truck and part of a garage, threatening more damage to the neighborhoo d.
