Danish FM: Denmark considers measures to prevent burning of Quran
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Rasmussen said Friday his country’s government is currently considering taking some measures to issue laws on preventing the recurrence of burning the Holy Quran.
This came during a telephone call between Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Danish peer on the repeated acts of burning the Quran, which is a “heinous” crime, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Rasmussen expressed his grave sorrow over the incidents of desecrating the Quran in his country, stressing that these are “irresponsible” acts, which do not express Denmark’s societal values.
He affirmed his country’s commitment to providing protection to the foreign embassies H.Q in Denmark, including the Egyptian mission.
Meanwhile, Shoukry referred to Egypt’s stance rejecting strongly all acts of burning the Quran and their repetition without taking decisive measures against their perpetrators, according to the statement.
This provokes the feelings of millions of Muslims across the world and runs counter to human rights values and peaceful coexistence as well as enhances extremism inside societies, it noted.
Shoukry emphasized the importance for countries to bear their responsibilities to stop decisively such incidents and prevent their recurrence in the future.
The two ministers, meanwhile, touched upon their ties in some fields, within the framework of the two sides’ keenness on reaching wider horizons in the next period, the statement said.
Rasmussen affirmed that Danish Prime Minister looks forward to receiving Egypt’s President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi in Copenhagen, out of the premier’s interest in enhancing ties with Egypt, it stated
