Convening of the Social Committee of the 114th session of the Arab Economic and Social Council

The Social Committee of the (114) session of the Arab Economic and Social Council was held today, Sunday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo. Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League, stated in her speech during the meeting, which comes at the beginning of the session of the Arab Economic and Social Council, that she informed the Social Committee of the report of the Secretary-General of the Arab League, which included all the efforts and activities that took place between the two sessions of the Council in various sectors of joint Arab social and development work. Abu Ghazaleh pointed out in this regard that the focus was on continuing to implement the social dimensions of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan, supporting vulnerable groups in society, and other activities related to persons with disabilities, the elderly, health, youth, women, family, childhood, population policies, civil society, human rights, migration and expatriates, education, scientific research, culture, and dialogue of civilizations. She added that the Social Committee's agenda included preparations for the (34) session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level, Arab-international cooperation in social development fields, and other social issues received from member states that relate to the daily lives of Arabs, through a number of important Arab initiatives and within the framework of the efforts of ministerial councils and specialized Arab committees. The Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League indicated that the Economic and Social Council at the level of senior officials will be informed of the recommendations of the Social Committee at its meeting scheduled for September 4, and then the topics will be raised to the Council at the ministerial level on September 5, to take the necessary decisions on all economic and social issues that enhance joint Arab social work and support e fforts aimed at implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.
