Ramallah: Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa initiated the weekly Cabinet session, providing ministers with updates on recent contacts and political efforts orchestrated by President Mahmoud Abbas and relevant authorities to advocate for Palestinian rights in international forums.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Cabinet called for prompt Arab, Islamic, and international actions to counteract the Israeli occupation authorities' announcement regarding the establishment of 17 new colonial settlements in the occupied West Bank over the coming five years. It emphasized that these unilateral measures contribute to increased regional tension and instability, and will not ensure security for any party in the short or long term.
The Cabinet also reviewed developments in the Gaza Strip, focusing on the efforts of government teams and international partners to support Palestinians through the Government Operations Room. It stressed the importance of advancing to the second phase of the plan to halt the conflict and expedite recovery and reconstruction efforts in the region.
Additionally, the Cabinet condemned the Israeli occupation forces' recent raid on the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) headquarters in Sheikh Jarrah, East Jerusalem, as well as the seizure of the agency's property. It highlighted the severe repercussions of these illegal actions against a UN entity that provides essential services to Palestinians, in line with the United Nations Charter.
The Cabinet further denounced the Israeli forces' raids on Birzeit University and Al-Quds University in Abu Dis, labeling them as severe violations of international humanitarian law that protects educational institutions as civilian objects. It pointed out that these actions form part of a broader pattern of targeting the educational processes at Palestinian universities.
Lastly, the Cabinet approved an emergency initiative, led by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, to rehabilitate the main streets in Al-Far'a refugee camp. This project aims to mitigate the impact of Israeli aggression and bolster the resilience of local residents.
